Latent Class Analysis for Estimating an Unknown Population Size – with Application to Censuses

چکیده
Abstract Estimation of the unknown population size using capture-recapture techniques relies on key assumption that capture probabilities are homogeneous across individuals in population. This is usually accomplished via post-stratification by some covariates believed to influence individual catchability. Another issue arises estimation from data collected multiple sources list dependence, where an individual’s catchability one related another list. The earlier models for heavily relied upon independence. However, there methods available can adjust estimates account dependence among lists. In this article, we propose use latent class analysis through log-linear modelling estimate presence both heterogeneity and dependence. proposed approach illustrated 1988 US census dress rehearsal.

An application of Measurement error evaluation using latent class analysis
Latent class analysis (LCA) is a method of evaluating non sampling errors, especially measurement error in categorical data. Biemer (2011) introduced four latent class modeling approaches: probability model parameterization, log linear model, modified path model, and graphical model using path diagrams. These models are interchangeable. Latent class probability models express l...
متن کاملClustering and combining pattern of metabolic syndrome components among Iranian population with latent class analysis
Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS), a combination of coronary heart disease and diabetes mellitus risk factor, refer to one of the most challenging public health issues in worldwide. The aim of this study was to identify the subgroups of participants in a study on the basis of MetS components. Methods: The cross-sectional study took place in the districts related to Teh...
متن کاملEstimating Population Size in Asynchronous Aggregations: a Bayesian Approach and Test with Elephant Seal Censuses
Many organisms reproduce in temporary aggregations where estimates of colony size can be made by direct counts. When individuals are not synchronous, however, early breeders depart before the last arrive, so counts underestimate the total breeding population. We present a model describing a colony's census as a function of arrival, breeding tenure, and the correlation between them, and we use i...

objects that represent common attributes are not visible to the user and do not relate to logical files themselves. They rather define a subgroup in each of their sub-objects. Concrete super-objects, visible to the user, are candidates for files. Their sub-objects can be visible to the user and are then candidates for files themselves. Otherwise, they are an optional subgroup of their super-obj...
متن کاملA Fully Bayesian Analysis of Multivariate Latent Class Models with an Application to Metric Conjoint Analysis
In this paper we head for a fully Bayesian analysis of the latent class model with a priori unknown number of classes. Estimation is carried out by means of Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. We deal explicitely with the consequences the unidentifiability of this type of model has on MCMC estimation. Joint Bayesian estimation of all latent variables, model parameters, and parameters deter...
